Sports massage

30, 60 or 90 minute sessions available

Sports massage is the use of specific therapy techniques in an athletic context to improve recovery time, enhance performance and reduce the risk of injury. This is accomplished using techniques that stimulate the flow of blood and lymph to and from muscles. Sports massage is often delivered before or after physical activity depending on the subject's needs, preferences and goals.

Hot stone massage

60 or 90 minute sessions available

This is a fantastically relaxing treatment, which uses hot and if desired cold stones to work into the muscles. It's a gentler treatment than a conventional sports massage, but is still great for dealing with aches, pains and tight spots.

Who can benefit from sports massage?

Almost anyone! Sports massage is not only for sports people. It can also help if you find yourself stiff after sitting for long periods at a desk, or conversely if you have a physically demanding job. You may find a massage beneficial if you have trouble sleeping. Or perhaps you simply suffer from general aches and pains? Sports massage could help you too.

I've heard it's really painful, is this true?

Sports massage is a deep tissue massage, and as such there can be moments during the treatment that may be uncomfortable. But overall, the experience should be a pleasant one. As a therapist, I will always check in with you to make sure that you are happy with the pressure that I am applying. I prefer not to work at a level of pain beyond 7 out of 10 at the most and for the majority of your treatment we will be working at a much lower level - it is important that the client is still able to relax, as massaging tense muscles is no fun for anyone, and brings limited benefits. Your treatment is centred around you and your needs as an individual - so I will always work to your level of comfort.

Additionally, a Cannabidiol (CBD) massage can also beneficial as it combines the soothing properties of CBD with the therapeutic benefits of sports massage, offering a natural remedy for pain relief, relaxation, and overall well-being.

It still sounds a bit too rigorous for me...

No problem. Why not get in touch to book a relaxation focussed swedish or hot stone massage instead? These treatments use minimal or no deep tissue techniques, and instead focus on your relaxation or specific areas such as the back, neck and shoulders.

I'm injured, can you help?

Yes, as a qualified level 4 sports massage therapist I am able to treat a broad range of conditions. I can also work with dysfunction, which is often closely linked to injury. These are aches and pains, with no heat, redness or swelling present, and have no pathological cause (such a traumatic event, like a fall). Causes of dysfunction may include:

  • Postural stress
  • Overuse of soft tissues, for example through sport
  • Congenital factors, such a short leg
  • Inappropriate movement patterns
  • Altered movement patterns due to injury

Where are you based?

I am based in Kenninghall, and provide sports massage services in my purpose-built therapy room.
